· Blood level elevation of some androgens.

There are numbers of prescription drugs to this type of acne. Low dosage of oral contraceptives (pills) can be used for suppressing production of androgen in the ovaries. Low dosage of corticosteroid group drugs like dexamethasone and prednisone are known for their proprietary of suppressing adrenal glands produced androgen. Usually anti-androgen drugs like Aldactone (spironolactone) are used to treat hormonal acne. The main aim of treating hormonal acne is to maintain balance of various hormones and to decrease production of excessive oil. Anti-androgen drugs may have side effects such as tender breasts, menstrual irregularities, fatigue and headache.
